Downtown Orlando

  • Him: Why don't you study at home?
  • Me: I have no desk to study in and our house is super dim.
  • Him: You can fit a chair in your room or use the light in the dining room.
  • Me: I'd have to get rid of my other furniture to fit it and the tables in the dining room and kitchen are usually covered in stuff that isn't mine, so it's a hassle. I'd rather just go somewhere with a table, sturdy chair and decent lighting.
  • Him: Well why not go near us instead of wrestling with the UCF traffic and ending up murdered in traffic? ( I told him I had just narrowly avoided being in the middle of a pileup today and had to swerve hard onto the shoulder to avoid it.)
  • Me: I tried the Starbucks near our house. On early weekdays they're super busy and full of kids, so I can't always find seating.
  • Me: Besides, the food is good and fairly cheap here.
  • Him: Nothing is cheap at Starbucks.
  • Me: Exactly, that's why I'm not at Starbucks.
  • Him: Well you can find a non-chain, right?
  • Me: I tried to go to Stardust in Winter Park but GPS kept dropping me at a suburb with the same address. When I called them they said I was at the right intersection but shouldn't be in a neighborhood. I got confused and gave up.
  • Him: Haha. Well what about on Fairbanks or in Winter Park?
  • Me: Barnie's on Park only has 5-6 tables and they're normally occupied by husbands waiting on their wives to shop.
  • Me: I like Drunken Monkey on Bumby, but parking is minimal sometimes and sometimes it's really dim in there, too. It's good for social coffee but not so much studying.
  • Me: The one I go to has 15 tables and 4 outside with a small common parking area with other stores that is never full. Plus they have an outlet for every table, so I never have to hunt for one. And floor-to-ceiling windows for bright light. And the food and coffee is good and affordable.
  • Him: I think this should be much easier than it is.
  • Me: I have needs.
  • I have very strong opinions on coffee shops, clearly.

Anyone in the Orlando area have any input or suggestions among these restaurants?

Given, I worked at one for quite awhile. But the only other ones I’ve visited are Dexter’s and Mitchell’s.

Suggestions?

So I met a lovely girl named Amy who is doing a senior photo thesis.

Her project has to do with nerd culture/fandoms and those who participate in them.

I know a lot of my local friends on here have nerdy memorabilia, participate in cosplay, or are just generally nerdy. So if you are interested in participating in her project, message her!

Hey Knights,
If you guys need an Orlando-area taxi tonight:

Mears Yellow Taxi
(407) 699-9999

Even if you think you *might* be okay to drive after drinking, also ask yourself if you think you’re alert enough to react in a split second should another drunk driver come at you because they thought they were okay to drive. It’s really better to just have a driver you know is sober and knows where they’re going.

It’s going to be insane downtown tonight and by the college. Be safe. Having one cab company’s number in my phone has saved my ass quite a few times.

Trying out Tako Cheena for lunch. Lots of things to try. (Taken with instagram)

Ate here with meggo2 and have to say I may have a new Asian taco place. :)

Aubrey and I are the Solar Bears game. Different section tonight, yelling the same off-color bullshit, though. #solarbears #solarbearshockey #orlando (at Orlando Solar Bears @ Amway Center)

Goodbye #orlando! Time to bump that dance music six hours til home.

#501stlegion sighting at tonight’s #solarbearshockey game. Clearly I need to get moved to the party people section. #solarbears

On my way to go watch the Orlando Psycho City Derby Girls :)

I can’t really afford to work more than a few days a week (though weekends are open and I can work day shifts since my classes are at night!)

I have experience in restaurants and limited retail experience, but can also do clerical work or office assistance work.

Any suggestions are appreciated! :)

Irish Mike’s on Forsyth Rd. did an amazing job with the GTO!
Price was good, the bumper cover matches perfectly, they did the work super fast, and great customer service.

Irish Mike’s Auto Body or K&J Auto- both great body shops. Autotech Internationale on SR50 for maintenance work.

Fellow Knights, you’re welcome. It took me years and a couple really bad experiences to find good, honest mechanics around here.
