Name: Kelli
City: Orlando
21 years old.
History graduate student at UCF.
Catching Elephant is a theme by Andy Taylor

I only did it the one time because the car club I was in wanted to get shots put together for a calendar of the club’s cars for a buddy who was deploying. The owner of the corvette asked if I’d pose next to his car. Thinking he was kidding I said, “Only if I get to drive it! And I’m going to be fully clothed.” He threw me the keys at 10am that day and told me he’d be back to pick it up at 3pm. He so didn’t go home with the same amount of gas in his tank, I’ll say that much.

HAY FIRST CAR, HAY:
18 year old Kelli. Out and about in good ol’ Destin!
I went out for lunch with Gabby today on her day off.
We walked around some stores after lunch. I went in Sephora in hunt of a new foundation. I’m hoping my girl Meghan can ID this one I tried and bought and let me know if she has heard anything about it. The lady at the store said it has good coverage but is way better for my skin than the CG stuff I’ve been using.
Also went in Books-A-Million. I was going to buy a little pack of moleskin notebooks to keep in my purse, until Gabby pointed out these little treasures! Vroom pocket pads, each one has a classic American car on it designed by Jenny Kate. Also, only $5! They have a full-size vroom mustang journal and “moto” motorcycle notebook that I think might end up being my class notebooks next fall. :]
All in all, a very fun day. I’m excited to be home and relax before I head back to Orlando Sunday. I’ll be heading back with new work clothes, better skin hopefully, and better organized!
I don’t even remember the last time I had one of these bad boys.
My dad has been on a mission to recreate this Creamsicle blended drink he had in Key West, so he bought these.
Also, I’m not staying in my room this trip due to the fact my mother’s things have overtaken my old room. So I’m in my sister’s room instead.
Benefit to this? There are so many nice clothes she has left in her closet for the past six years. Hello, free shopping! Ralph Lauren button downs? Great condition jean jacket? American Eagle jeans in my size? Don’t mind if I do!
P.s.- The inevitable pun joke:
“Who Loves Orange Soda?”
“Kel(li) Loves Orange Soda!”
I just got “charged with having too much fun studying on campus.”
I guess it’s part of a fundraiser for the food pantry on campus. They ask a dollar donation of all the “charged” parties. I gave him a dollar in change, because I still think of the food pantry as Sarah’s LEAD Scholar project and am happy to donate.
So, uh, any UCFers want some awesome stickers?
Today is an emarosa with the windows down kind of day. (Taken with instagram)
Greetings from Boston Cofeehouse.
Working on my homework while listening to Amos Lee.
I had to clean up my historic site assessment paper before class tonight.
And now I’m working on my historiography paper for my military history class. I’m hoping if I can crank it out between today and tomorrow, I won’t have to worry about it next week before I present. Only two more weeks left of my first year of grad school.
I’m so close to the finish, but it feels so far away. Sigh.
Edit: I hate seeing customer service employees who are being totally sweet and helpful being talked to like shit by other customers. I want to intervene, but I know it will only make the situation worse.
Pictures from the Graduate Research Forum on April 3, 2012.
My friend, Anne Ladyem and I won as one of two winning entries for Arts and Humanities for our research on community building and fundraising for the Sanford Student Museum.
:) Next Friday morning I get to attend a breakfast at 8:30a.m. for Research Week participants where Anne and I will get our prize for winning.
Spending Spring Break in the library today.
I wish Java City was open upstairs.
I’ll probably stick around a couple more hours and try to finish up my military history assignments.
Tomorrow I work all weekend and my sister is spending the night Saturday, so I want to get as much of my homework done as immediately as possible. I still need to finish my military history book review and some of my historiography. I wanted to finish my cultural heritage historical interpreter paper, but I realized that NOWHERE on webcourses or in the syllabus did my teacher mention her expectations for this paper. o.0 So I e-mailed a bunch of classmates to see what they’re doing for the paper before I type it up.
Someone wrote on my wall that not having time off from schoolwork this year would help me prepare for the “real world,” because she has to work all week. Uh, honey, I work too AND have homework. I’m pretty familiar with how the “real world” works. Also, you’re a coffee barista. *rolls eyes*
Also, may or may not be dying my hair again in the next couple days.
Very dark. ^___^
Like this color dark:
Met my future husband at Megacon today.
Hawkeye, marry me?
My Kaylee costume was pretty good, but my hair was a mess. If I go again on Sunday I need to figure out how to do my hair better.
My friend who went as Mal got randomly attacked and photographed by so many people.
Went to Lush with Meghan.
I wasn’t planning to buy anything.
That didn’t last.
Bought A Million Kisses, Dragon Ball bath fizz thingy, and some really pretty Apple Cinnamon bath fizz thingy whose name I forgot. And I got a free sample of Demon in the Dark..? Whatever that is?
Also Meghan got me awesome Christmas gifts. :D She made sure I have nice things.
Off to work now.
I feel a bit dolled up for work compared to how I’ve been dressing lately, but it’s a nice change. :]
I only work one day next week I found out. Usually I’d be pissed at the lack of paycheck, but I am relieved to have a week to unwind finally.
I can get caught up on projects due soon for school, finally do laundry, clean, sleep, get things caught up for Phi Alpha Theta and the Sanford Student Museum AND hopefully have time to apply and prepare a speech for the Graduate Research Forum coming up in April.
:)

The money I used to buy these bracelets goes towards two charities, one that gives scholarships to student athletes in my hometown area for college, the other benefits families with children going through the fight against cancer.
Both messages serve as ample motivation to live your life to the fullest and whatever your goals, don’t give up on them.

Drink: Irish Eyes Are Smiling.
(Insert witty pun here about my Irish eyes not smiling with all this reading here.)
In all honesty, though, Public History: Essays from the Field by James B. Gardner and Peter S. LaPaglia is both an easy read and very useful for any inspiring public historians.
Phi Alpha Thetans, future history grad students and other history students alike- you guys should read this book and consider what public history can mean for you in terms of a career and job field!
